We went out to get a gallon of paint at Home Depot this weekend. JUST a gallon of boring ole paint. They had a few bargains I couldn't resist. (I had to LOOK didn't I?). I bought another ice plant, which has a peach bloom,(in the picture)and smaller foliage than the one I have. The tag was missing, but I know that's what it is. I also bought Centaurea Amehyst in Snow that is white and burgundy. The bloom are just coming out on it, so I'll take a picture later. I also bought Boysenberry Ruffles Lavender, lavendula stoechas, which has Zone 6 on it, but I'm putting it near the house so I'm hoping it will be fine with mulch in my Zone 5.
We were heading out to eat lunch next, but it was too soon so I thought we should pull into a nursery/garden center near the restaurant. (How convenient!). There I found more bargains: Bronze fennel and Echinops Ritro (globe thistle). I had both of these at the old house and really missed them. I've decided to put all of these in the newer bed I've been working on where the tomatoes ended up this year. It has a lot of room left. The lavender, globe thistle, and centaura need full sun and are tall so I can put them in the back of the border. The ice plant can go in the front and the bronze fennel is a nutrient hog so I'm putting it at the very end of this bed, a little set off. It should be fine there. I'll take pictures when everything is settled.
Finally, (and you thought I was done...) I found a tiny paperback on building bird homes for the meadow, and a cute bird bath that is fairly small but was marked down and splurged on a copy of Countryside magazine too. I look at it this way; I could have went out and bought a summer outfit and it would have been okay, since I haven't bought clothing in ages, but instead I spent LESS money on plants. Who needs new clothing?

Brenda, this time of year, if you can keep it alive, you can find many bargains. I'm thinking about going out to the nurseries in a day or two.~~Dee
Thanks for visiting my blog. I've enjoyed yours. What lovely flowers. I love plants, but I think I like clothes better.
Hope you're having a great week.
Well, yesterday we were out and my daughter wanted to stop at our local nursery, so we came home with three more plants! They were 40% off though:) I figure we still have 2 1/2 good months before frost, maybe longer!
